Raiders Meet With San Antonio Officials For Possible Move Out of Oakland

New mayor says she plans to put up a fight to keep the Silver and Black in Oakland.

Oakland Mayor-elect Libby Shaaf said she is ready to put up a fight to keep the Raiders in town.

San Antonio officials visited Oakland on Friday to try and convince the Silver and Black to move south.

"Obviously the Raiders tried to go to LA before -- they chose to come back to Oakland," Shaaf said. "So hopefully they learned their lesson from that."

Shaaf said one of her top priorities is to work with the Raiders to get a new long-term deal. The team's current lease ends after this season.

"It's for us to sell Oakland and convince him that this is the first place for the Raiders, for the A's," Shaaf said. "I am committed to doing that, although I have been very clear I will not put public money into stadium construction."

Raiders owner Mark Davis has said the team needs a new place to call home. O.co Coliseum is the only stadium left that houses both a pro football and baseball team.

"Something needs to be done if we're gonna keep these teams, including the Oakland A's. We need a new stadium. We're decrepit as far as stadiums go," Raiders fan Dale Walter said. "The fans deserve it. The city deserves it."

Oakland Vice Mayor Larry Reid, a self-proclaimed die-hard Raiders fan, said he is not going to worry about the issue even though Friday marked the third time the team has met with San Antonio officials.

"The Raiders are exploring their options," Reid said. "Mark Davis has said not once, but many times, it is his wishes to continue to play here in the City of Oakland, where the history of the Oakland Raiders is."
