Rapid Fire Recap: Kings' Quick Freezes Flyers in 3-2 OT Thriller

LOS ANGELES – Milan Lucic scored the game-tying goal with 56 seconds remaining in regulation and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in an overtime shootout on Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Shayne Gostlisbehere scored his first goal of the season just 3:41 into the first period off a Philadelphia power play. Claude Giroux was credited with the assist for the defenseman whose slapshot beat Jonathan Quick.

The Kings tied the game on a power play of their own at the end of the period. Jamie McBain received a pass from Alec Martinez on the right side of the net and blasted a slapshot past Steve Mason for the goal.

Flyers captain Claude Giroux added another point to his 2015-2016 campaign when he scored the go-ahead goal for Philadelphia midway through the third period.

Milan Lucic tied the game with 56 seconds remaining in regulation when he sent a rebound past Mason and into the back of the net.

In overtime, both teams had their chances as the new 3-on-3 OT format in the NHL is quite possibly the most exciting action in all of sports. Both teams had numerous fast break opportunities as each goalie was tested time and time again over a five-minute flurry.

In the overtime shootout, both goalies were sensational until Anze Kopitar scored to give the Kings the 1-0 advantage. Quick made the final save on Jakub Voracek to give the Kings the win and the important two points in the standings.
