Sochi Day 8: What to Watch

The U.S. men's hockey team plays Russia, speed skaters try again with new skating suits and ski jumping continues

The half-way point of the Sochi Olympics has arrived and kicks off with a huge men's hockey game:  U.S. plays Russia in one of their first match-ups since the "Miracle on Ice." Also, women's Alpine skiers compete in the last speed race of the Games, while U.S. speed skaters take their first race since swapping their new, high-tech suits for their older, hopefully faster ones.

Here are the viewing details on the day's events:

1 a.m. ET: NBC replays all the highlights from Friday's men's figure skating competition, the women's skeleton final and the men's super combined Alpine skiing race.

2 a.m. ET: U.S. Alpine skier "Super Jules" has a chance to add to her medal count after taking a bronze in the women's super combined but missing the podium in the downhill race. If Julia Mancuso manages to notch another Olympic medal in Saturday's super-G it will be her fifth, matching Bode Miller's U.S. Alpine record. This is also the final women's speed event of the Games, with nothing but slalom on the Sochi schedule for the remainder of these Olympics. Tune in here.

3 a.m. ET:  Slovakia plays Slovenia in the first of several exciting hockey games of the day. Both are first-time Olympic teams looking to recover after losing their opening games. Watch them live here

5 a.m. ET: Tune in here for the men's 1000m qualifiers for the 7:20 a.m. ET final. The U.S. has not yet notched a Sochi short track victory and is not expected to here. Women are also competing in a qualifier for the 7 a.m. ET 1500m final.

Meanwhile, cross-country skiers compete for the medal podium in the women's 4x5km relay. Watch that here.

7:30 a.m. ET: The big hockey game of the day is the USA's match-up against Russia. This is the first time the two teams meet at Sochi and just the third time the two countries will play since 2002. Goalie Jonathan Quick will start after helping the U.S. to a 7-1 win over Slovakia Thursday. Watch the game live here or catch it on the NBC Sports Network.

8:30 a.m. ET: After swapping out their high-tech speed skating suits for older, potentially faster ones, Shani Davis and other U.S. skaters competing in the men's 1500m race will have no one to blame but themselves if they don't manage to get in a good race. Davis took silver in this event at the last Olympic Games and will be looking to redeem himself after an eighth place finish in a race he was expected to dominate— Wednesday's 1000m. Watch Saturday's race live here.

9:45 a.m. ET: Cheer on USA's John Daly and Matthew Antoine as they go for a head-first gold in the men's skeleton event. The final two runs of the competition begin at 9:45 a.m. ET. Follow them live here.
