Southern California is sending more than 100 athletes to the London Olympics, and a few are in action during the opening weekend.
Women's Soccer: United States vs. Colombia
Diamond Bar native Alex Morgan has already scored two goals in a victory against France. Redondo Beach's Shannon Boxx was sidelined because of a hamstring injury.
Women’s Basketball: United States vs. Croatia
Chino's Diana Taurasi and the U.S. women have not lost in the Olympics for 20 years. Coach Geno Auriemma doesn't just want to win gold; he wants to win in style. "We want to play a game that is pleasing to watch," Auriemma said. "Just winning won't be good enough for us to raise the bar."
Tennis: Serena Williams vs. Jelena Jankovic
Serena Williams will be back playing at Wimbledon after capturing the Grand Slam title at the All England Club earlier in the year. The Bryan brothers of Southern California also will compete in doubles.
Women's Beach Volleyball: Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Lee Walsh
Two-time gold medal winners Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh will take to the sand to start their quest for a third straight gold. May-Treanor has announced that the London Games will be her last.

South El Monte’s Joseph Diaz Jr. steps into the ring with a good chance of taking home gold in the men's bantamweight. He is a two-time national champion in that weight class.
