Life Connected: Meet Commerce's Water Polo Hero

When Brenda Villa emigrated from Mexico to the U.S., she didn't know how to swim. Now captain of the U.S. Women's Olympic Water Polo Team, Villa returned to the City of Commerce to inspire future Olympians. "She showed us all size doesn t matter; that anything is possible," says Laura Jiminez, a Commerce water polo athlete. Vikki Vargas reports from Commerce for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on July 24, 2012.

Maggie Steffens tied an Olympic record for goals in a game with seven in the United State's 14-13 victory over Hungary to open group play.

Steffens, 19, is the youngest player on Team USA.She was making her Olympic debut on a team of veterans led by captain Brenda Villa, of Commerce.

Steffens, of Seal Beach, scored six goals to lead her team to gold at the 2011 Pan American Games.

The United States won silver in Beijing. The team will take on Spain Wednesday in Group A play.
