Peter Oppenheimer, Former Apple Exec, Donates $20 Million to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo

A former chief financial officer for Apple has donated $20 million to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in what officials are calling the largest cash gift the university has ever received.

The San Luis Obispo Tribune reports 51-year-old Peter Oppenheimer made the donation with his wife, Mary Beth. Both are Cal Poly graduates.

The university said Monday that the money is pledged for its College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences. It will be used to modernize current facilities and build a farm store, an equestrian pavilion and an arena for livestock events and conferences.

Oppenheimer worked for Apple for 18 years. He is currently a director of Goldman Sachs and vice chair of the Cal Poly Foundation board.
