Twitter Planning Layoffs Next Week: ReCode

Twitter is planning company-wide layoffs next week, according to tech site Re/Code. Though it’s currently unclear how many staffers will get the boot, the layoffs are expected to affect most departments, especially engineering, the site reported.

The news comes just days after Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, was named permanent CEO on Monday. He has been serving as interim CEO since early July.

The company has about 316 million active monthly users and employs 4100 people from around the world, according to the company's website.

Despite these impressive stats, however, some sources told Re/Code that the company has become “too bloated.” In a June interview with the site, Dorsey even admitted that the company needed to “clarify ownership” around projects.

So far, no word from Twitter on the rumored layoffs. “We’re not commenting on rumor and speculation," a spokesperson told Twitter in a statement.
