A Salinas television station heard an unusual call on the police radio Thursday morning. Someone driving a Cadillac Escalade had somehow driven into the ocean at Pebble Beach.

The station's news department sent photographer George Cilley to check out the call. Cilley found an SUV stranded in the surf at the base of Cypress Point Golf Course.

The driver, identified as a beat-box performer from the area, was able to wade back to shore.

KSBW reported the driver is 26-year-old Tino Ponsonby of the group Overtone. Overtone is managed by Dina Eastwood, wife of Clint Eastwood.

Witnesses said he was traveling at a high rate of speed when he careened off 17 Mile Drive, crashed on to the beach and then continued "zooming into the ocean."

It was not clear if the man suffered a medical or mechanical problem or if he  was driving impaired.

Tow trucks were able to get the Escalade out of the water within an hour.
