Location: 3000 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank, CA (map)
Requested Schedule: M-F
Required Hours: 30-40 per week, depending on schedule
Education: junior, senior, masters level

Description of Intern Role and Responsibilities:

The NBCLA.com web intern should have a passion for news and the Internet. The student certainly does not need a computer science degree -- just the willingness to learn. The student will be working with veteran web journalists to find sources, conduct interviews, compile research, write articles, build galleries, edit video and assist with social media and editorial planning. He/she will explore all aspects of digital journalism. A highly motivated student can thrive in this position, leaving with a well-rounded newsroom education.

Qualifications:

  • Mastery of print writing is a must
  • Proficient with AP style
  • Consumer of news online and on air
  • Excellent news judgment
  • Knowledge of the LA market, community, cultural and entertainment venues a plus

Knowledge/interest in learning about:

  • Web development tools
  • Social media
  • Image editing software (Photoshop, Paint)
  • HTML code: we don't need a computer programmer, just someone with a general familiarity
  • Use of Blogger/Wordpress or any online publishing software (CMS)
  • Digital video
