Sean Murphy has joined NBC4's "Today in LA" as a traffic reporter. He will appear Monday through Friday from 4:30AM to 7AM, beginning Monday, August 23, 2010. He will also contribute lifestyle reports for the "Channel 4 News."
Most recently, Murphy was a traffic anchor and feature reporter for CBS3/CW57 in Philadelphia from 2005 to 2009. He was the traffic host for CW57’s (WPSG-TV) "Wake Up News," and, simultaneously, wrote, produced and reported feature pieces on the CBS3 (KYW-TV). He won two local-area Emmy Awards and a Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Award for segments he did on CBS3. During his tenure at the sister stations, he also wrote a popular Blog called "Murphy’s Musings," which provided Murphy's take on everything from being a first time dad to local and national events.
Before that, Murphy was a producer host and feature reporter for Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia from 2001 to 2005. He was a producer/host on "PECO (Philadelphia Electric Company) Spotlight" and, before that, was a producer/writer on "SportsNet Classics." While at SportsNet, Murphy won a local-area Emmy Award for Outstanding News Feature, Single Report (Same Day) for a segment he did called "Wing Bowl Madness."
Murphy began his career in entertainment as a promotion producer for WPSG-TV (then UPN 57) in Philadelphia in 1999. He was also an In-Arena Host for the Philadelphia Flyers from 2000 to 2004 and reprised that role for the 2009 season.
Murphy is a graduate of Temple University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Radio/Television/Film. He currently resides in the Los Angeles area with his wife and daughter.
