Iron News Man
My first ride on my new bike went as well as could be expected. Per my Ironman Arizona TrainingPeaks.com schedule... I rode for an hour and a half. I took the EXACT same path on which I crashed EXACTLY two weeks ago, The Santa Clarita Trail. Psychologically, it was good to pass the spot where I went smashing into a wooden ranch style fence. When I passed the spot, I thought to myself, "I can't believe you crashed there!" Such a stupid accident... such a painful experience. Lesson learned.
Part of that lesson is to ride my new road bike for most of my training. The brakes are accessed more easily (part of the issue with my crash) and riding my new triathlon bike would be like driving a Ferrari on a daily basis. Not done (Be sure to click on the slide show to see the new bikes, fitted by triathlon legend Dan Empfield)!
My damaged shoulder held-up well during the ride. Two or three times I did experience quick, stabbing pain. It came when I made sudden movements with the shoulder. I need to be mindful about being deliberate in my movements, so as not to aggravate the shoulder.
Here's my TrainingPeaks.com schedule today from Triathlon Coach Jason Healey:
Workout Description:
Run 9 miles on a rolling course. Stay in Zone 2: Medium pace.
I have two route choices for the run. One is flat, the other includes a 1.3 mile hill. Both are streets. I'm leaning toward the one with the hill (Poe Parkway in Stevenson Ranch near my home). It's only a six percent grade... so it's nothing that I can't recover from quickly.
Saturday I have a 70-mile ride scheduled, and I'm already daydreaming about it!
