Iron News Man
I'm pleased about completing my 70-mile ride Saturday. It's the longest distance I've ridden so far, but as my Ironman training increases, it'll soon seem light. The only drawback, my damaged right shoulder is aching. I'm not sure if it's the ride, or the cumulative effects of all the training and rehab from the past few days? Either way, it won't slow me down.
I'm giving my shoulder at least one more week of healing before I get back into the pool. The Nautica Malibu Triathlon is September 13th. If I can get strength and mobility in my right shoulder by then, I should be fine.
Here's my TrainingPeaks.com schedule from Triathlon Coach Jason Healey:
Run Flat Course - Recovery Run
Type: Run
Planned duration: 0:00
Planned distance: 10.0 miles
Run 10 miles on a Hilly Course. Stay in Zone 2: Medium Hard and at times in Lower Zone 3: Hard near the top of hills. Run up and DOWN streets like Poe, Hemingway, Faulkner, Kavanaugh and the surrounding to simulate rolling Hills. Include climbing times up to 12 minutes. Try not to climb more than 12 minutes before adding downhill recovery legs.
If you start and stop at the same location you will have 5 miles of up and 5 miles of down.
I know exactly where I'm going to do this run, Stevenson Ranch. I'll start near the Santa Clarita Athletic Club off of Calgrove, then wind my way to the top of Poe Parkway, circling back via McBean, Orchard Village, and Wiley Canyon roads. Making the run more enjoyable, the typical scorching temps of August are absent. We're 5-8 degrees below normal!
