"The man (or woman) who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win." - Roger Bannister
Tomorrow morning I’ll be running in the rain… 13-miles in the rain to be exact. Once again I’ll be joining the Students Run LA group headed by my own personal running coach Craig Moss. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; training with the SRLA kids has rapidly whipped me into marathon shape after my post-Ironman Arizona holiday weight gain.
The last two miles of tomorrow’s run will be uphill! I’m told those hills will be so tough, the run might as well be 17-miles. Sounds like quite a challenge. I plan on getting soaked in what will be my final semi-long run before the LA Marathon in three weeks. If you plan on running (or training period) in the rain be sure to CLICK HERE for tips.
My training for today is intended to rest my legs:
Swim 3000-yards
Weight train biceps-triceps
Yesterday I visited my chiropractor for the first time in three months. Lately my back has been burning toward the end of my long runs, which tells me my back is out of alignment. I feel SO much better after the visit and plan to go weekly leading up to the LA Marathon. I remember running the Surf City Full Marathon with a back that felt on-fire! I certainly don’t want a repeat of that experience (though I did P.R. that race).

Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
