I’m excited to tackle my training for the next few days. While tomorrow marks my last run day (8-miles, 6-miles at tempo)… I have a long swim and a medium ride before the Surf City Half Marathon. One thing that has traditionally made me nuts before a road race is the lack of training. That will not be the case thanks to triathlon training for the Toyota Desert International and my need to keep building bike and swim fitness. I’ll have plenty of work to do leading right up to Sunday’s Surf City Half Marathon in Huntington Beach.
Latest Surf City Marathon/Half Marathon weather forecast from Meteorologist Elita Loresca: Temps in the upper 40s to mid-50s at the start, cloudy and drizzly.
Here’s my Ironman South Africa training for today:
Ride 40-miles
Swim 1500-yards
My legs feel good, not necessarily fresh, so it’s a plus today’s training will avoid the pounding I take from my runs. I plan to ride the Santa Clarita Trail. I’ll start from LA Fitness Valencia which means immediately following my ride, I can shower and jump into the pool. I much-prefer the minimal downtime between sessions… making for a true brick.

Why blog? To inspire others.
Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
