Iron News Man
My knees are aching! Yes, I iced them after my 15-mile run yesterday. Still, they’re pretty sore. I’m convinced it’s because of the extra weight I’ve been unmotivated enough to shed from the holidays. Notice the lack of excuses. I have no one to blame but myself for being heavier than I’d like. Hopefully I’ll dial-in my training and shed the excess weight by the LA Marathon when it will really count!
Here’s my Ironman South Africa training for today:
Swim 1750-yards
Run 4-miles
Weight train back
I’m thankful for the short run, followed by a swim. Given how my legs feel, it’s right on-time! One thing I plan to do for sure is stretch adequately before the run. I’ll swim at LA Fitness in Valencia, California. My run and weight training session will be based out of Jordan’s Virtual Fit Club just down the road.
I have to speak to students at Los Altos Elementary School in Hacienda Heights before I workout today. It’s something I do annually and wouldn’t miss for the world, despite my Ironman training requirements. Speaking of which, do you have limited time for a workout? Supersets are the way to go! Why blog? To inspire others.
Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
