19 seconds! A mere 19 seconds is all I could shave on the return trip of my out-and-back 8-mile run yesterday. I was hoping for a bigger difference in this negative split run, but upon analysis I’m pleased. My 19 second differential shows I pushed myself hard during the first 4-miles. Also, the return trip was on a slight incline so I’m happy that I was able to overcome that obstacle.
Today brings rest for my legs. I’ll be swimming at LA Fitness Valencia and then weight training down the road at Jordan’s Virtual Fit Club. Here are the specifics:
Swim 1750-yards
Weight train biceps/triceps
Tomorrow brings the last “build” run before the LA Marathon. Once again I’ll join the Mount Gleason Runners Students Run LA group headed by my coach Craig Moss. We’ll tackle an 8-miler with the label “hard/fast”. After tomorrow’s run, nothing greater than a few 6-milers before the big day!

Wildflower Triathlon (long course)
Ironman World Championships????
Why blog? To inspire others.
Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
