Six days! The LA Marathon awaits the determined in just six days. I’m ALREADY starting to lose sleep over it! I woke-up in the middle of the night thinking about race day. Am I ready? I think so. But I know I will never feel completely ready. It’s just the nature of the beast.
I’m already finalizing my race day equipment. In fact, I already know what shoes (Asics) I’m going to wear… what clothes, watch, hat, etc. I also have my fueling gels selected and tested. There will be nothing new on race day!
I felt strong during Saturday's 8-miler! I ran once again with the Mount Gleason Runners of Students Run LA (headed by my friend and coach Craig Moss). I did the first 4-miles (mostly downhill) in 31 minutes. The trip back was understandably slower by a few minutes because it was uphill. Overall, it was a nice confidence builder.
Here’s my training schedule for today:
Run 6-miles (medium effort)
Weight train Chest
Today’s run is one of only two remaining before the big race day on Sunday. I’ll use one of my tried-and-true street routes with minimal hills. It’s going to feel easy and I’ll feel frustrated for sure until I run again (for the last time before the marathon) on Thursday. Oh taper, how I hate thee!
There’s nothing better than a buddy to kick-up your Ab Workout! Be sure to click on Today’s Wakeup Workout to see trainers Carla Porter and Liana Lehua show us how it’s done.

Why blog? To inspire others.
Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
