I am thrilled with the sunny race-day forecast from Meteorologist Elita Loresca for the LA Marathon. When the race starts at Dodger stadium, the temperature should be in the mid to high 50s. By the time I finish at the beach just before 11am the temperature should be about 70 (the expected high for the day is 78). Better race conditions would be tough to find! Throw in a fantastic, fun new course and it’s easy to understand my enthusiasm.
Taper week has brought me my first full off day. I have nothing on my schedule today except rest (and stretching). No weight training, running, swimming, or biking. On days like this I have to be careful not to overeat and to watch my calorie consumption. I’ve made great strides toward my weight goal of 207 (or less) for Sunday’s race and I don’t want to blow it now.
Today's training schedule:
Stretch (yup that's it)
Tomorrow I have my last run before the LA Marathon. It’s a 6-miler at race speed! I’m looking forward to smoking it! Friday I have packet pick-up which is good for my head because it gives me something directly linked to the race to look forward to (and keep my mind from going nuts). Saturday I’ll stay off my feet as much as possible and take my little girls out to an Italian restaurant for a pasta/carbo load dinner. Before I know it, I’ll be waking up marathon morning!

Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
