“Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood... Make big plans, aim high in hope and work.” - Daniel H. Burnham
Are you ready? I’m ready! I’m MORE than ready! The LA Marathon is less than 48 hours away. Today packet pick-up begins during the marathon expo at Dodger Stadium and I’m super excited! I love the expo because you get to grab your race Bib Number (mine is 909), shirt, and check out all the cool stuff. This year’s race will feature 25th Anniversary LA Marathon gear, so you can bet I’ll be spending plenty!
I have no workout of any kind planned for today. However, I do plan on stretching at Jordan’s Virtual Fit Club for at least a half hour and sitting on the PowerPlate machine. My hamstrings have felt tight for a few weeks and I’m a bit concerned… but not overly concerned.
I plan to relax as much as possible before the race. It’s always easier said than done, but the best way I achieve this is to clear my social schedule and focus on simple things at home. Thank goodness for my daughters because they keep me engaged and having low-key fun (Princess and the Frog anyone?).
As for my pre-race LA Marathon meal early Sunday, that’ll be easy:
One or one-half bagel with peanut butter
Orange Juice
Just before the race start:
5-Hour energy shot
1-GU packet
During the race:
1-GU packet every 45 minutes
Post race:
2 Large bottles of G2 Gatorade
From the bottom of my heart, blessings to all who plan to run this year’s Inaugural Stadium to the Sea LA Marathon! Think of the race on Sunday as a confirmation of all the hard work you’ve already put in. You WILL do well. You WILL succeed! All of the training has prepared you for this incredible experience. Revel in it, you have earned the right! If you find yourself near the sub-4 hour corral at the marathon start please say hello!

My race schedule (so far) for 2010:
13.1 Los Angeles (Half) Marathon
Students Run LA Friendship Run
Wildflower Triathlon (long course)
Ironman World Championships????
Why blog? To inspire others.
Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
