“Don’t count the days, make the days count.” -Muhammad Ali

I only have two more semi-long runs before my taper for the LA Marathon begins!  It’s hard to believe how fast this latest 26.2-mile challenge is arriving.  I’m sure by this time next week I’ll be writing about how the taper has me feeling fat and slow, wishing I could go for a long run.  Ultimately what that tells me is I’m right on track and soon it’ll be time to trust my training (sound familiar?).

Yesterday I SMOKED my 5-miler!  How do I know?  Well I ran the same 5-mile course as Monday; only yesterday I did it 7-minutes faster!  I wasn’t even trying to run fast… I just felt fresh and ready.  I was told the hills and strength training would give me a boost, hopefully it holds through theLA Marathon (where optimistically I hope to keep an 8:30 pace on my way to a 3:40 marathon which would be a Personal Record).

Here’s my training schedule for today:

Ride for 20-miles

Photos and Videos

Wakeup Workout - Fly with a Crunch

More Photos and Videos

Swim 1500-yards

I’m debating the use of my Ferrari! Yes, I might break out my Kuota Keen-K Triathlon bike to ride along High 126.  I have not used it in more than a month.  I miss that bike and it’s speed!  I’ll do the swim at LA Fitness.

Want a great way to work chest and abs back-to-back?  Today’s Wakeup Workout Video features a combination Fly/Crunch exercise demonstrated by Trainer Carla Porter you don’t want to miss!

Why blog? To inspire others.

Simply put, three years ago I was overweight!  At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants.  Few people really noticed, but I did.  In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance.  Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw.  Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.

No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events.  Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!

I invite you to share this journey with me.
