“Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.” - Carol Burnett

One of two remaining long-ish runs awaits me today!   The LA Marathon is just 17 days away and if I had to run it today, I can say I feel ready.  By the time the gun goes off race morning I know I’ll feel more than ready, perhaps eager!

So here’s today’s training:

Run 10-miles

Weight train biceps and triceps

Photos and Videos

Wakeup Workout - Burpee Pullup

More Photos and Videos

About the 10-mile run… 8 of those miles are meant to be 4-miles out and 4-miles back.  The idea is to once again do a negative split (run faster on the back half than the first half).  As the LA Marathon approaches, getting accustomed to a negative split will help give me the confidence to finish strong on race day.

I’ll do the run from the Santa Clarita Athletic Club then transition to Jordan’s Virtual Fit Club for the weight workout.  After I finish both, I’ll visit my chiropractor to make sure I stay in alignment and keep my back relatively pain-free.

Okay, today features one of the toughest Wakeup Workouts yet!  Certified Trainer Carla Porter does Burpees with a Pull-up!  Think you’re up to the challenge?  Click on today’s Wakeup Workout video to find out.

Why blog? To inspire others.

Simply put, three years ago I was overweight!  At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants.  Few people really noticed, but I did.  In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance.  Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw.  Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.

No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events.  Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, 2009 LA Marathon, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, and 2009 Ironman Arizona!

I invite you to share this journey with me.
