Iron News Man
The calm before the Ironman Arizona training storm! That’s how I’m looking at today. My schedule only calls for a relatively light swim. However, a glance at my schedule for the week shows that tomorrow brings a TRIPLE-BRICK workout! Friday brings the longest swim yet, just five pool lengths shy of the actual IM Arizona swim distance (2.4-miles). I will relax and relish the nature of today’s pool session knowing how difficult these next few days will be.
Yesterday was a treat! Sport Photographer Rich Cruse joined me for much of the day. One of the biggest comments/questions I get, “How do you manage your time?” Rich got to see firsthand. He started by joining the Today in LA team and me on the NBC Lot in Burbank. He then followed me to my swim training at LA Fitness in Universal City. Finally he captured my bike ride through the San Fernando Valley.
Be sure to click on the gallery below to see three of the new images Rich took. Of note, in one of the swim pictures you can see my detached Clavicle. Bottom-line, my shoulder will be permanently disfigured as a result of my bike crash back in July. I don’t really care; it’s kind of an Ironman badge of honor.
Here’s my TrainingPeaks.com schedule for today from Triathlon Coach Jason Healey:
Pyramid Swim
Type: Swim
Swim 1500 yrds total. Warm Up: 4 x 25 with (10" rest) then 4 x 50 with (20" rest).

I’ll do today’s swim up at the LA Fitness in Valencia. It’s closer to home for me. It will also give me time to get home and get a nap before I head to the Globe Theater at Universal Studios. I’ll be emceeing the Optimist Gala once again this year. Time management!
