The reality of Ironman Kona and the focus that comes with it is really starting to kick-in! With less than two months before the big race, there’s little margin for error. I MUST make every workout count and stay on-point! So far, it has not been a problem. Ironman is once again dominating my thoughts. Work: great. Family: the most important thing in my life. Ironman: my drive for the next seven weeks!
My Ford Ironman World Championship training for today:
Brick!
Swim 1500-yards
Run 4-miles
I was up at 5am this morning to knock out my brick before work (have to be at KNBC by 9am). I now swim train using intervals only. If I want to get faster, that’s how I’m gonna do it (according to swim coach Chris Dahowski). Here’s the breakdown of my 1500 yards. 200-yard warm up. 10x100 yard sprints (slightly decreasing the time of each). 10x25 yard sprints, remaining distance was cool down.
My run was simple and not taxing. 4-miles was just enough to get blood into my legs and get a stride… then it was over. No worries, tomorrow I have a 10-mile interval run. Monday, I have a 15-mile run… Tuesday, a 100-mile ride.
57 days until theFord Ironman World Championship in Kailua – Kona!

Why blog? To inspire others.
Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 & 2010 Surf City Marathons in Huntington Beach, 2009 & 2010 LA Marathons, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, 2010 Wildflower Long Course and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
