This day brings a super long training run! I’m finally reaching my training peak. I remember looking ahead on my schedule to days like today and thinking, “Man do I have some tough days ahead!” Funny thing is, with the slow build-up, my training run today is not good or bad, short or long… it just, is.
Here’s my Ford Ironman World Championship training for today:
Run 18-miles
Weight train chest and shoulders
I’ll start my run at 8am at the Santa Clarita Athletic Club. From there, I’ll use a mix of streets and the Santa Clarita Trail to get my 18-miles. This run will be yet another confidence builder. The one element it will miss is heat. I had plenty of heat training last week (riding and running in temps topping 100 degrees). I could always use more of it.
Once I finish my run, I’ll head over to Jordan’s Virtual Fit Club for a chest and back workout. The good part of finishing at Jordan’s will be the use of the Power Plate and the automatic massage bed in my recovery. I’ll be wiped, but it will be a very rewarding day of training!
As near laser like as my focus on Ironman has become, there is a short-term goal: the Nautica Malibu Triathlon. It benefits Children’s Hospital. Last year the NBC Universal Triathlon Team was a big part of the one million dollars raised for the hospital and we’re at it again! Child Cancer is evil and I can’t think of anything better than raising money to fight it through the sport I love! CLICK HERE to donate!

Why blog? To inspire others.
Simply put, three years ago I was overweight! At 6’1” I weighed 252, and wore size 40 pants. Few people really noticed, but I did. In pictures, on TV, I was not happy with my appearance. Covering the 2007 LA Marathon for NBC4 was the last straw. Every picture I was in highlighted just how out of shape I had become.
No more! Since that time, the guy who could barely run around the block has slowly built-up his endurance and completed numerous events. Among the big ones: the 2008 Long Beach International Marathon , 2009 & 2010 Surf City Marathons in Huntington Beach, 2009 & 2010 LA Marathons, 2009 Vineman Ironman 70.3, 2010 Wildflower Long Course and 2009 Ironman Arizona!
I invite you to share this journey with me.
