Sheriff's deputies searched the Pacific Coast highway near the Ventura County line Friday afternoon for a man who was allegedly shot while his truck was being carjacked.

Authorities became involved when California Highway Patrol officers stopped the truck around two Friday morning for a traffic violation in Camarillo, according the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

As soon as the truck had stopped, a visibly distraught woman jumped out of the cab and ran toward authorities.

The truck sped off... leaving the woman behind.

The woman told officers the driver had kidnapped her, after shooting her husband and dumping him somewhere along Pacific Coast Highway.

Officers pursued the driver, who then crashed his truck, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The driver was taken into custody, and has been identified at Maximo Tamayo-Flores, 58, of Oxnard, according to the Ventura County Star.

Authorities are still searching for the victim.
