San Gabriel Valley Pursuit Ends with PIT Maneuver

A driver who spoke on a cellphone and drove without  headlights led California Highway Patrol officers on a nearly hourlong high- speed chase before flipping the vehicle over in West Covina.

The chase entered Los Angeles County about 9:05 p.m. from San Bernardino  County, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball said. It ended when  the driver overturned the late-1990s Ford Explorer on the Azusa Avenue on-ramp  to the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway about 10 p.m., Kimball said.

The suspect was not taken to a hospital but was in custody at 10:02  p.m., Kimball said. His name was not immediately released.

The vehicle was stolen, according to broadcast reports. Kimball could  not confirm if it was stolen.
