When open enrollment beings Oct. 1, NBC4 will host certified counselors in our newsroom to answer your questions.
Under the Affordable Care Act, all Americans will be required to have health insurance by 2014, or pay a penalty.
Of the 7 million uninsured Californians, some 5.3 million will qualify for coverage under Covered California. About half of those will be eligible for government subsidies to defray the cost of health insurance.
That includes individuals making less than $46,000 a year, and families of four making less than $94, 000 a year.
And Southern California is the largest market of residents who quality for subsidies.
In Los Angeles, there are seven insurers from which to choose. In Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, there are six insurers to choose from.
All plans have four levels of coverage: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze.
