Los Angeles area commuters will get a chance to weigh in on proposed changes to bus service when the Metropolitan Transportation Authority holds public hearings on it next month.

The changes would affect bus service in the San Gabriel Valley, San Fernando Valley, the Westside and downtown Los Angeles.

Metro officials are considering modifying routes and lines, and starting Metro Rapid bus line from downtown to Santa Monica via Venice Boulevard.

If approved, the proposed changes would take effect June 27 or later.

The first public hearing will be held Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Marvin Braude Constituent Service Center, 6262 Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys.

Another meeting is scheduled Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. in Metro's San Gabriel Valley Sector Office at 3449 Santa Anita Ave. in El Monte.

The final meeting is set for Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. in the La Cienega Tennis Center on 325 S. La Cienega Blvd. in Beverly Hills.
