Iron News Man
One week from today I leave for Vineman Ironman 70.3 in beautiful Sonoma County, California (about an hour north of San Francisco)! I’m getting so pumped! Already the pre-race nervousness about being fit enough and finishing in a reasonable time are dominating my thoughts.
My back is getting much better (thank goodness). Having my lower back in tip-top shape will be key to not only the six hour drive up to Sonoma County, but of course the race itself.
Here’s my TrainingPeaks.com schedule from Triathlon Coach Jason Healey:
1k TT
Type: Swim
Planned duration: 0:00
Planned distance: 1400.0 yards
1400 yrd total. Warm Up: Swim 200 yrds easy. Then swim a 1000 m/yd time trial at your race speed. Record TT time for future Time Trial Tests.
After the Time Trial, Cool Down with 4 x 50. Chris this 1000 yrd time trial will serve as a marker for future tests regarding your swim fitness and economy.
Workout #2: AA, 3-4 sets
Type: Strength
Planned duration: 1:00
Planned distance: 0.0 miles
After 10 minute warm up do 2-3 sets of Anatomical Adaptation Phase "B" Exercises. Cool down with 5-10 minutes. Print Anatomical Adaptation Phase "B" Exercise Illustrations from the Triathlon Training Series DVD.
I have to stay late at NBC4 today for an in-studio newscast rehearsal using a new system. It may throw off my training schedule for the day. I think I should still be able to sneak in the swim, but the weight training might have to wait until tomorrow morning. If so, I’ll do my bike/run cardio first, then add the weight training.
Here’s my meal plan for today from Food Coach and Private Chef Robert Vincent:
-Protein drink
-Six egg whites, egg yolk, oatmeal
-Mixed berries, banana, six ounces of tuna
-Eight ounces of lean beef, sweet potato
-Quarter chicken, pasta, two cups of steamed veggies
-Protein drink
-Cup of frozen yogurt
I’ll be around friends this weekend and booze. That’s a tricky combination for someone trying to stay fitness focused. Reminding myself of the importance of Vineman should give me the inspiration I need to resist temptation.
