Crazy busy! That’s how I’d describe my day. Managing it properly will be the key to keeping me on track for Sunday’s Vineman Ironman 70.3. In addition to anchoring the news from 4am-7am this morning, I head to Jordan’s Virtual Fit Club to tape four Wakeup Workout segments. Once finished, I head back to NBC4 in Burbank to rehearse on our new system. I also have the folks from 1-800-Got Junk coming by the house this afternoon from 3:30-5:30. Time management, being efficient, that thought rules this day.
As busy as this day will be, it could have been worse! A buddy offered me a ticket tonight’s ESPY Awards in downtown LA, along with access to the after party. After giving it a ton of thought, I’ve decided not to go. I’d love to see some of my favorite athletes up close and personal, but I need to think big picture. My sleep would suffer greatly. Not only would I be too tired at work tomorrow morning, but it’s likely my body might not fully recover by Sunday’s Vineman. That’s a risk I cannot take!
Here’s my TrainingPeaks.com schedule for today from Triathlon Coach Jason Healey:
Steady, moderate effort
Type: Bike
Planned duration: 0:00
Planned distance: 30.0 miles
30 Ride on a flat to gently rolling course. Ride in 2 zone. Keep the 2-zone effort steady and continuous. Stay mostly in the small ring and keep a cadence of 90 rpm. Occasionally shift to the Bigger Gears and pedal out of the saddle to recruit other leg muscles. Near the middle of the ride, add 4 x 45 second all out (but controlled) pick-ups. Include 2-3 minutes rest between pickups.
It does not get dark until 8:05. If I can get going on my tri bike by 5:30, I should have no problem getting in my 30-mile training ride for today. That’s my plan, and I’m sticking to it!
