Man, are my legs sore! I’m finally starting to feel the effects from all of my training. Everything from my chest up feels fine. However, from my lower back down is hurting in one way or another. I was told to expect a certain level of training fatigue. I don’t think I’m over-training, rather conditioning my body to the expectations of Ironman.
My schedule for today calls for something interesting and new (to me)… Hill repeats! I’ll be riding up Poe Parkway in Stevenson Ranch, which is 1.3 miles of pain. I don’t know the grade of the hill, but I can tell you it’s no picnic.
Here’s my TrainingPeaks.com schedule for today from Triathlon coach Jason Healey:
Steady, moderate effort
Type: Bike
Planned duration: 1:30
Planned distance: 0.0 miles
Ride Hill repeats. Ride approx 1hr-30min. Warm up 15 minutes on the flats down on Stevenson Ranch Parkway or out and back on Pico Cyn Rd. Follow warm up with 4 hill repeats up Poe to the top and then back down. Ride medium-to-medium hard effort with a touch of hard near the top. Try to keep effort steady from bottom to top. After the repeats, cool down 15 minutes with light spin around your house. Focus on staying seated on the climbs. Try to keep your cadence above 70 rpm.
Time to build Practical Strength on the Bike.
Here’s what Food Coach Robert Vincent has on-tap for me:
-Protein drink
-Half of a cantaloupe, yogurt, white bagel
-Cup of mixed berries, banana, lentils
-Eight ounces of lean beef
-Large veggie salad topped with grilled chicken
-Protein drink
-Cup of frozen yogurt
As expected with my crazy schedule yesterday, I blew my meal plan. I should have a much easier time meeting my nutritional goals today.
