10 lucky fish (or not so lucky if you happen to be the fish) have been red tagged with prizes and released back into the lake for the Fishing for 50K Trout Derby.

“It’s an opportunity for people to come up and win some big bucks,” Lake Manager Mike Stevenson said.

One lucky fishing fan will have a chance to catch the $50,000 prize. Other prizes include $1,000 for people catching a tagged trout from a boat rented at one of Big Bear Lake’s marinas and $500 for a tagged fish caught on Berkley PowerBait. Big Bear lodging and adventure packages that include one and two night getaways, pontoon boat rentals and restaurant certificates are also up for grabs.

The awards ceremony will take place Sunday, May 31 at 3 p.m. in the Big Bear Visitor Center parking lot and includes a general raffle with thousands of dollars worth of fishing gear, bait and tackle from national manufacturers.

Grab your fishing pole for a chance to win. If you’re a fish, avoid anything shiny.
