The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition urged commuters to bike to work Friday, which has been designated "Car-Free Friday."

Los Angeles City Councilman Ed Reyes will join cyclists in MacArthur Park to hand out bicycle lights and provide Spanish-speaking cyclists with safety information. After the event, Reyes will bike to City Hall.

"Latino bicyclists have been at the forefront of environmentalism long before the green movement became fashionable," Reyes said.

Cyclists will also be encouraged to stop at the Carecen Day Laborer Center near Wilshire Boulevard and South Union Avenue where bike lights, repairs and safety information will be provided on a regular basis by volunteers with the Bicycle Coalition.
