Thousands of country-western fans turned out Sunday for the second day of the Stagecoach Music Festival, which was scheduled to end Sunday night at Indio's Empire Polo Field with performances by Kid Rock, Kenny Chesney and Miranda Lambert.

The vast majority of Stagecoach revelers were causing no trouble, said Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron. As of 1 a.m. Sunday, a total of 17 people had been arrested in connection with the festival since Friday night, Guitron said.

Fourteen of those arrests were alcohol-related, Guitron said. One was for possession or sales of narcotics. Two arrests were assault-related, and one man was arrested on a domestic violence charge after a physical dispute with his wife, Guitron said.

"It's been peaceful by and large," Guitron said. "Yes, everybody's kept their clothes on so far. Our arrests have not required less-than-lethal alternatives or anything else."

Guitron was referring to an incident at last weekend's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, when a 23-year-old San Luis Obispo man took his clothes off and refused to put them back on.

Police confronted the apparently inebriated man and eventually used a stun gun to get handcuffs on him, while the scene was videotaped and photographed. Some video of the incident became a minor viral sensation on the Web last week.

Sunday at the Stagecoach Festival, Jerry Jeff Walker, Poco, Ricky Scaggs and Pure Prairie League are among those in today's lineup. Tonight, Kid Rock is due on the Mane Stage at 7:30 p.m., and Kenny Chesney, country music's top earner last year, will close the festival with a 9:15 p.m. performance.

A total of nearly 40 acts were booked for the festival.

Brad Paisley closed the show Saturday night, singing the praises and curses of booze in his hit song "Alcohol." He also played "Let The Good Times Roll" in a video duet with B.B. King.

The crowd was estimated to be as large as 40,000.

Big draws Saturday included the Charlie Daniels Band, Earl Scruggs, former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker, Reba McEntire and Kevin Costner & Modern West.

Last year's Stagecoach attracted 120,000 people over three days. The extra day was added to make room for a special performance by the Eagles.

Guitron said Indio streets would be congested, and residents not attending the festival should expect delays, and avoid Jefferson and Monroe streets, which are the main entry and exit to the polo field.

Good alternative routes for travel north and south in Indio will be Madison, Jackson and Calhoun streets along with Golf Center Parkway.

Roads adjacent to the event will be converted to one-way after 11 p.m. Sunday to help keep traffic flowing after the end of festival.
