THE DECEMBERISTS: They may have a month in their name, and it may be a perfectly chilly fit for their old-timey tunes, but The Decemberists are fairly October, too. All those ballads just brimming with spirit and mystery. We'd see 'em any time of the year, including sunny June or July, but a Monday in the spooking month seems right. They're at Royce Hall at 8PM.
BRAZILIAN GIRLS: Electro-funky New Yorkers Brazilian Girls -- in which there is one girl, Sabina Sciubba -- make for the Avalon in Hollywood. Songs in a host of languages, sparkly keyboard-y riffs, and Ms. Sciubba's outlandish sense of style: an antidote to Mondayness.
VINTAGE SCARES: Over the next two weeks there will be a lot of blood-guts-slasher filmage going down around town. A LOT. Which is why we're charmed at the yuks-filled fun at the New Bev tonight. "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" and "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" are on the double-feature bill. Smiles/scares. Plus Don Knotts. Everything starts at 7:30PM.
