Dog Day at Dodgers Stadium

Growlers are the stadium stars on Aug. 21.

That day where knitters took over Dodger Stadium has long been our favorite Elysian Park event. Oh, the yarns told.

But now the knitters have some serious competition in the affections department. That's because Bark in the Park is coming to Dodger Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 21. Yep. Dogs in Dodger Stadium.

If you think we're thinking about making some sort of jokey Dodger Dog reference here, you would be very right. They'll be flying at the game, count on it.

The short of it: The Dodgers are playing the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m. on Aug. 21. Dodgers fans are invited to show early with their pups (but there are some things to know and do ahead of time, so see below) for a rally in Parking Lot G. There will be lookalike contests. There will be biggest dog and smallest dog dog-offs. There will be a promenade around the warning track.

Dogs and people can then enter the stadium and enjoy the game (note that there will be a special dog section that night).

The evening is presented by Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Pet Foods. Part of the night's monies will go to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The ahead-of-time to-dos: You'll need to show with your dog's rabies vaccinations from your vet, your dog will need to be wearing an id tag, and you'll need to prep a few other essential things. Please read all the important points to know before heading out on Aug. 21. We stress this. Plan ahead. Your four-footed Dodger fan will thank you.
