There may be ice rinks all over the city, but there's only one where skaters can take a break and visit an ocelot.

Or if ocelots aren't your thing, perhaps you'd prefer the meerkats, or maybe some koalas. Whatever your zoological preference, the Los Angeles Zoo has something for you.

Its ice rink is scheduled to open Friday, according to the zoo:

For the first time ever, you can skate your way into the holidays at the Los Angeles Zoo. Enjoy a session of skating fun (for a nominal fee) on our eco-friendly "hybrid-ice" skating rink or treat yourself to festive holiday fare while watching skaters glide past.

Skaters must be at least 5 years old and each sessions costs $5. The rink will remain open until Jan. 10.

The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is located in Griffith Park at the junction of the 134 and 5 freeways. Admission is $13 for adults and $8 for children (ages 2 to 12). The Zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For information, call 323-644-4200 or visit www.lazoo.org.
