PINK MARTINI: The Hollywood Bowl and this globetrotting, trés stylish band make for one swell match. When all those Portland-based musicians -- who fashion a rousing mix of old-cinema-new-swing-French-torch-songs-'60s-film-love-ditties -- fill up the big stage at the Bowl, it's a bit of music magic. We remember a very long, packed with drahhh-ma take on Ravel's "Bolero" during the orchestra's 2005 Bowl visit. Still fanning ourselves. Saturday, September 19th
ALOHAFEST! MUSIC & MAGIC FROM PARADISE: A song-filled spectacular happening on the very same night as Pink Martini and just across the street, too (well, if you want to call the 101 a street). The Brothers Cazimero of Hawaii are vocalizing, and Tahitian fire dancers will wow. You didn't make the Big Island this year. You've never made the Big Island, but long to, very much. VAUDEVILLE EXTRAVAGANZA: There's something special and unseen that gently settles over you when you stand in the courtyard of the Alex Theatre. You've felt it? It's just, well. It's the fabled past of the place, the beauty of its lit-up signage and building, the stories.
