The National Park Service is one of our country's shining stars. No further explanation needed. Public places, set aside for all, is truly part of the heart of the American vision.

And that the Department of the Interior would set aside Wednesday, November 11th as a day to honor veterans by waiving admission to the parks truly seems fitting. In fact, any of the lands managed by the NPS, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and a number of other agencies are open to all on Veterans Day. These include the national forests, which is under the purview of the Department of Agriculture.

Los Angeles is near several beautiful and remote groves well worth exploring.

Check out the list of wonder spots and see if you'll be near one. There can be few better places to reflect on the important day than a national park or other tree-filled, peace-inspiring nook.
