Funny thing about franchises. They tend to be actual physical places, for the most part, right? Businesses inside buildings. Not always -- clubs can franchise and teams -- but one if far more likely to see the name of an ice cream company in a new city than the name of a festival from your hometown.

But perhaps this is a happy harbinger of things to come. San Diego's own Doggie Street Festival, which has celebrated barkers and supported dog adoptions for nearly a half decade, is headed for Los Angeles on Sunday, June 24.

This isn't merely putting it all on the road, though; the festival, which will unfurl at Westfield Century City, will round up local LA rescue groups and organizations. Also, cat lovers? Felines'll be a part, too, for the first time, so don't let the festival title send you meowing away.

So, to answer what are probably the first two questions: Is it free? Yep. Can you show with your own Fido? Yep again, provided he can make nice with other animals.

And if you don't have a Fido? The Doggie Street Festival is billed as "California's Largest Pet Adoption-Focused Festival." So you might make a new lifelong friend.

Thanks for sharing, San Diego. We have some mighty fine annual to-dos up here, too. Maybe you want to try a few out?

The hours of the Doggie Street Festival are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
