The Natural History Museum's final First Friday for 2012 is on Friday, June 1. Live it up, science buffs!

A lot of events are like a lot of other events in this world. True? True.

But there aren't too many things that can compare with the Natural History Museum's First Fridays series. The six annual nights, which happen once a month from January to June, are devoted to high-brow science talks and beat-filled DJ sets all set against a backdrop of dinosaur bones and mammoth-filled dioramas.

Yeah. Nothing else quite like it springs to mind. Some happenings have one of those things but few have all.

First Fridays is also unusual because, as we mentioned, it only happens during the first half of the year. Meaning that, now that June is here, the end is near. The final First Friday is on Friday, June 1.

On the finale's docket: A brainy talk about how our choice of friends impacts our creativity (interesting in this social media-laden age) and tunes from Cut Chemist and Superhumanoids.

There's an early-in-the-evening tour called "Traditions Under the Influence," too.

We're sure sad to see you go, First Fridays. You put the pizazz in science, something that has oodles of pizazz to begin with but could use a little hipster-style love now and then. We'll be happy to see you again in January. Don't forget us.
