Tonight: “The Devil's Punchbowl”

Authors gather to talk about an intriguing California-centered book.

"THE DEVIL'S PUNCHBOWL" NIGHT: A few California-focused, California-based authors are gathering at Book Soup to discuss a new book that considers Golden State locations and the lay of the land, both socially and physically. They'll be looking at both man-made works and wonders that have been here much, much longer than we have. Very interesting night at Book Soup, we bet. Here's the full title of the book, too: "The Devil's Punchbowl: A Cultural & Geographical Map of California Today."

ANNE RICE AND CHRISTOPHER RICE: It's the too rare night when bestselling novelists, who also happen to be mother and son, sit down together to chat about writerly topics and other flights of fancy. That's what's happening tonight at Zipper Hall at the Colburn School. 8 p.m.

BEN AFFLECK: The director-actor -- we can't be the only person now flipping the order on that hyphenate -- will be at the Aero Theatre talking about "The Town." "Gone Baby Gone" will screen after. Time on the first film is 7:30 p.m.
