Tonight: Zappa Plays Zappa

A son summons a sound boasting oodles of Zappa-o-sity.

MONDO MUSIC NIGHT: The "Tour de Frank" lands at the Music Box for two nights starting tonight when Dweezil Zappa honors his father, and his works, via some tender tuneage. Down at Club Nokia, The Posies and Brendan Benson perform. And Dark Star Orchestra will be on the El Rey stage. Ohhhh, and Def Lepparder Phil Collen will stop by Guitar Center, too.

"A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS": Our temptation to write the next few sentences as a Peanuts teacher -- "waaa wa waa wa" -- is strong, but you probably just want to get to the center of this Peanuty treat. Jazzer David Benoit is playing the famous, Guaraldi-great soundtrack with a few Snoopy-sweet updates. He's doing so at Cerritos Center. Wear your yellow-and-black zigzag shirt. 8 p.m.

ALSO: It's time for Silver Lake Holiday Nights Out; there'll be three over the next trio of Fridays, but tonight is the first. Shop along Hyperion and nearby streets and give local shops the love (and experience a few seasonal treats during the evening, too). 6-9 p.m.
