Week Two at the Fair

Racing pigs are among the many attractions scheduled for the week ahead

There are a few people out there who are surely a bit blue that the Los Angeles County Fair shutters each Monday and Tuesday; perhaps those days are their weekend, or they refuse to take the stand that most of the world does on the start of the week not being about fun pursuits.

But we think the breather is good; it gives the fair staffers a chance to regroup and respiffy, the animals can chill (although they pretty much do that when we're all there), and the paper cups and plates can get restacked.

And we have a moment to look ahead to another week at the largest county fair in the country. We're heading into week number two of the month-long affair, and some solid concerts are on the horizon: George Benson and Chaka Khan play Thursday, Sept. 13, Tower of Power and Average White Band are on Friday, Sept. 14, and Bridgit Mendler and Cher Lloyd share the night of Saturday, Sept. 15. And rounding out the weekend on Sunday? Mariachi USA Fiesta.

Some ongoing events we're keen on include Barking Buccaneers (dog show, natch), Barnyard Racers (speedy pigs, of course), and Welde's Big Bear Expedition (what with bears so much in the news these days).

If you were waiting for temps to cool before going Pomona, the upcoming weekend probably isn't your weekend; that said, if you want one last blast of summertime, while you ride the giant Ferris wheel, make for the fair.
