"Parade" is at the Mark Taper Forum through November 15th.
"PARADE": Musicals sometimes are written off as being full of frippery. Too light. But telling a dramatic tale via song is as old and as noble as theater itself. "Parade" takes on a true-life crime, and what happened after. T.R. Knight of "Grey's Anatomy" stars; it runs through November 15th at the Mark Taper Forum. (And, one more thought: frippery is nice, too.)
SHRIEKFEST: Can this film festival devoted to causing prickles on the back of the neck be almost a decade old? It can be. Here's why: It scares, with elegance, people who like to be scared elegantly. We like that it is at Raleigh Studios, one of the most atmospheric plots in all of Hollywood. The sun setting over the soundstages... dare you go to your next screening? You dare. October 1st-4th
TWO AT THE FORD: The J.U.I.C.E. Hip Hop Dance Festival is at the Amphitheater on Saturday, October 3rd. But more than moves are on the sked: look for art and DJs to be part of the night. On Sunday, October 4th, La Vida Music Festival fetes Hispanic Heritage Month with appearances by Louie Cruz Beltran Latin Jazz Orchestra and a host of other musicians.
PALEY CENTER OPEN HOUSE: It has television shows. Oh, does it. It knows television, it lives television, and it wants its neighbors to stop by and see all that it does to honor one of the art forms that is such an important part of our city's economy.
