Weekend: Ragga Muffins Festival, Brazilian Carnival

The Ragga Muffins Festival returns to Long Beach.

RAGGA MUFFINS FESTIVAL: Any two-day music extravaganza that is a year shy of its 30th anniversary is a major event. Add artists like Shaggy, Barrington Levy, Gregory Isaacs, Yellowman, and Don Carlos, and you have one of the world's premiere weekend-long concerts. At the Long Beach Arena, Saturday, February 20th and Sunday, February 21st

BRAZILIAN CARNIVAL: Fat Tuesday may have wrapped, but there are a few more Mardi Gras-ish parties playing out around town, including this one at Club Nokia. It's on Saturday, February 20th, and DJ Garth Trinidad, traditional costumed dancers, and hours and hours of samba music are on the bill.

SING-A-LONG SOUND OF MUSIC: We realize we're a good half year away -- or past -- the much-covered "Sound of Music" event at the Hollywood Bowl. But damper, colder temps shouldn't stop Von Trapp mavens from singing. Brea is the Alps-awesome spot, on Friday, February 19th and Saturday, February 20th.

STREEP TEASE: Meryl Streep, big sigh. Everyone loves Ms. Streep, and we're pretty sure science can back that up that assertion. Now Bang! Comedy Theatre is putting on a night devoted to the wonder thesp's monologues. Shouldn't you bone up before the Oscars? We all probably should. Saturday, February 20th.

MAKE IT BETTER: This event, which boasts both Will Ferrell and Tenacious D, as well as a bevy of other funny people, has been on our radar for awhile. Because it supports A Better LA, which is great. And because it will be burbling with hilarity. It's at Nokia Theatre on February 20th.
