REDONDO BEACH LOBSTER FESTIVAL: We're not snapping our claws at you, but we are suggesting that you do not grow complacent. A whole cavalcade of crustacean celebrations have bubbled up around SoCal in the last few, but they're going away faster than the last butter pat on the table. Redondo's seafood party is at Seaside Lagoon, and there's lots to do there. September 25th-27th

ABBOT KINNEY FESTIVAL: La vida Venice is not just a lifestyle longed for 'round these parts; people the world over know our funky-fun, planet-minded seaside burg. If you don't live in the area, and you need to soak in some sweet Venice-i-ness for your ownself, this daylong street fair'll do it. Crafty booths, snack-and-stroll food, music, dudes in sunhats, the occasional unicycle, kids on shoulders. September 27th.

TARFEST: It really wouldn't be feasible, advisable, or even legal -- we think? -- to go party in all that famous tar located just off Wilshire. But what we can do is party *adjacent* to the tar. Tarfest 2009 celebrates the arts, music, ideas, so it is very helpful it goes down on the Miracle Mile, seeing as how it is just about the most museum-y spot in the city. There's also a 5K run. Can we dress as a mammoth? September 25-27

SAVE FILM AT LACMA NIGHT: Not far from Tarfest, so maybe you can do both? We think so. The Save Film people have been much in the news, thanks to their fab efforts to bolster LACMA's important cinema program. The museum is screening the Tiawanese flick "A City of Sadness" on Saturday, September 26th as part of a special "Save Film" night. We expect this will also be a great night for meeting other cinephiles around town. Grassroots grow stronger when people communicate. Simple, but true.

"CHINATOWN" AND BEER: Okay. We just did about 30 seconds of deep breathing, and yet we find we cannot write about this Polanski-helmed classic without citing the last line: "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown." Phew. Feeling better. And we're feeling fantastic that Barnsdall Art Park is keeping up its screenings/tastings nights. "Swingers" was a couple of weeks back; now "Chinatown," another seminal LA flick, is rolling on September 26th. Taste good beer and watch.
