Surf City Surf Dog

A little cutie is jacketed up and ready for the waves; Surf City Surf Dog is on Sunday, October 11th.

SURF CITY SURF DOG: If you couldn't make it down to Del Mar for last month's Surf Dog Surf-a-thon, your chance to see life-jacketed Lassies riding the waves with their humans is coming back around again. Benefiting several pooch rescues, Surf City Surf Dog is getting wet on Sunday, October 11th, at Dog Beach in Huntington Beach. Cameras. One word. Cameras.

A TASTE OF ABBOT KINNEY: Though the Abbot Kinney Festival just wrapped a couple of weeks back, we're certain people are still longing to stroll that pretty stretch and enjoy a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy it, that is, with bites from the boulevard's culinary stars. The food fest supports Inside Out Community Arts, costs $60, and takes place from 2-7PM on Sunday, October 11th. (This is event is now listed as sold out; however, Joe's is holding an after-party bartender contest. See details.)

TASTE OF ENCINO: The "Tastes" tastes don't stop in Venice. Ventura Boulevard is closing between Amestoy and Balboa, the better to let neighborhood foodies walk by booths, meet chefs, and get to know what local eateries are cooking up. Tunes and kidly to-dos are also part of the day. Sunday, October 11th, 10AM-5PM. Free.

LA/VALLEY PRIDE RALLY: The second week in October is just about the time the LA/Valley Pride celebrates at CBS Radford Studios. But the bigger festival is canceled for 2009 -- look for it in 2010 -- in favor of a rally at Studio City Hand Carwash on Saturday, October 10th at 7PM. Get all the details here.

WORLD VEGETARIAN DAY: Compassionate Cuisine is celebrating on Friday, October 9th at California State University in Long Beach. On the roster: music, guest speakers (including comedian Carol Leifer), and delicious yums. Animal Acres is the beneficiary. 7-11PM
