MALIBU ARTS FESTIVAL: Browsing handmade handbags, vases, paintings, jewelry while chatting up dozens of artists. Sipping vino while taking in the sunshine. Relaxing. The chestnut "it's all good" seems to fit this summer staple. Bonus: Beachy breezes. At Malibu Civic Center July 25th-26th
TIKI LUAU WEEKEND AT THE EGYPTIAN: Vintage films starring Esther Williams and Frank Sinatra and Spencer Tracy -- all with an island vibe, of course -- plus a full-scale luau are on the American Cinematheque sked. The Saturday party in the Egyptian courtyard has musical delights. Our weekend is definitely needing some ukulele. July 24th and 25th
GIRLIE-GIRL CATFIGHT S.H.O.W.: There are few events with a name as helpfully clear and descriptive. We appreciate that. If you appreciate the posturings and stylings of Lucha Va Voom, spangly costumes, old-school wrestling, and tough-ladies-throwing-down-body-slams action, make for the El Rey Theatre on July 25th.
PAT BENATAR AND BLONDIE IN CONCERT: Here's the issue with deciding what to wear to this show. We want to go with the sort of post-apocalyptic, off-the-shoulder '80s chic of Ms. Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield" video, and yet we also are thinking of Deborah Harry's lip gloss circa "The Tide is High." SWORDS & CHIVALRY: Slip into our breastplate -- or maybe something a bit cooler -- for Festival of the Green at the LA Arboretum. The Phil is taking on movie music with a medieval-y, heroic theme -- think "Braveheart" and "Zorro" -- and the al fresco setting should be appropriately cinematic. Saturday, July 25th
