What You're Doing Tonight: Jan. 8

Eric Tan

How do a host of artists interpret the mood, vibe and sound of the Beastie Boys? FInd out at Gallery 1988.

BEASTIE BOYS REMIXED: Dozens of artists pay tribute (respectfully and eclectically) to the seminal trio (we especially like Eric Tan's menacing, vaguely retro robot). The exhibit's on for three weeks, but opening night -- and a reception -- takes place on January 8 from 7-11PM. Gallery 1988, 7020 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles. 323-937-7088

DOWNTOWN ART WALK: New year, more exercise? That could definitely include hoofing it from gallery to gallery to eye art. Your resolution never excluded walking, eating some cheese, drinking wine, looking at a painting, walking some more... Thursday, January 8, noon-9PM. Free. See site for map; many galleries are on Spring and Main in the heart of downtown. 213-624-6212

NAUGHTY FINGER PUPPETS ARE ONLY THE START: The Grand Guignolers put on fairy tales that are most certainly not intended for children. Like your "Hansel & Gretel" with a bit of horror? Other stories full of dread and delight? The show from December has been extended. Thursday, January 8, 8:30PM (plus more January dates). Art/Works Theatre, 6569 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles. 800-838-3006
